This product is a zinc salt of 10-undecenoic acid. The content of C22H38O4Zn should be 98.0% to 102.0%.

[Properties]

This product is a white amorphous powder. It is almost insoluble in water or ethanol. The melting point of this product (Appendix VI C) is 116 to 121 °C.

Identification

(1) Take about 3g of the product, add 20ml of water and 25ml of dilute sulfuric acid, and extract twice with ether by shaking, 25ml each time. Combine the ether extracts, place in a water bath to evaporate the ether, then take 1ml of the remaining liquid and perform the identification test under the section for undecylenic acid, showing the same reaction. (2) Take about 0.1g of the product, dissolve in 10ml of water and 1ml of concentrated ammonia solution, then add a few drops of sodium sulfide solution to generate a white precipitate. (3) The infrared absorption spectrum of the product (Spectrum Collection 18) is consistent.

[Check] For drying weight loss, take the sample and dry it at 105 C until constant weight is reached, with a weight loss not exceeding 1.0% (see Appendix V L). For alkali metal and alkaline earth metal salts, take 1.5g of the sample, add 50ml of water and 10ml of hydrochloric acid, boil, filter hot through moist filter paper, and wash with hot water until the wash water shows no acidity; combine the filtrate with the wash water, place it in a 200ml volumetric flask, add ammonia reagent to make it alkaline, then add an appropriate amount of ammonium sulfide reagent to completely precipitate zinc, dilute with water to the mark, shake well, and filter; take 100ml of the filtrate, add 0.5ml of sulfuric acid, evaporate to dryness, and ignite to constant weight, with the remaining residue not exceeding 7.5mg.
