Synthesis Method
Obtained from the direct cracking of castor oil or by ester exchange cracking.
1. The direct cracking method of castor oil involves placing castor oil into a stainless steel reaction kettle, heating it directly, and conducting pyrolysis under reduced pressure. The distillate is collected, and then fractionated to obtain undecenoic acid, while also producing heptanoic acid.
2. The ester exchange method of castor oil involves the ester exchange of castor oil (castor oil glyceride) with methanol, followed by high-temperature cracking to obtain methyl undecenoate. After saponification and acid purification, the final product is obtained, alongside by-products such as heptanal and glycerol.
Product Use
1. An important raw material for synthetic fragrances, such as the production of γ-decalactone (also known as peach aldehyde), polycyclic decanolide, muscone, nonanal, nonanol, etc.
2. Can also be used in antifungal drugs and medications for treating skin fungal infections, capable of synthesizing antimicrobial surfactants such as sodium succinate ester of oleyl ethanolamide.
3. Also used in the preparation of plasticizers, etc. The maximum allowable concentration in cosmetics (mass fraction) is 0.2%, stable within the pH range of 5.0 to 6.5. The dosage for use as an antifungal agent in medicines (mass fraction) is 2% to 15%.

Raw Material Workshop
Q: What is undecylenic acid mainly used to treat?
A: It is mainly used to treat skin diseases caused by fungal infections, such as athlete's foot, jock itch, and scalp fungal infections, with particularly good effects on treating athlete's foot. It can also be used for fungal vaginitis.
Q: How should this medication be used?
A: This product is for external use only and should not be taken internally. Please apply the ointment or solution directly to the affected area 2-3 times a day. It's important to note that treatment requires continuous use for several weeks for a complete cure.
Q: Are there any special precautions when using this medication?
A: There are two special points to note: First, if used on mucous membranes (such as the vagina), the drug concentration should not exceed 1% to avoid irritation. Second, the medication should be stored in a light-proof, sealed container, as it can solidify into lumps when exposed to cold and has unstable properties.
