Fusidic Acid CAS 6990-06-3 was extracted in 1962 for the first time by the Danish LEO Pharma from the fermentation broth of Fusidium coccineum. It is a narrow-spectrum, high-efficiency and anti gram-positive bacteria antibiotic widely used in foreign countries. Fusidic Acid, as a typical high efficiency antibiotic, although has been widely used in foreign countries for more than 30 years (few used in domestic clinical), still keeps relatively strong antibacterial activity and very low resistance to most staphylococcus strain, more and more receives people's attention, and becomes new selection of anti resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).

Fusidic acid, with CAS number 6990-06-3, is an antibiotic medication that offers several benefits in the treatment of bacterial infections. Here are some of the benefits of Fusidic Acid:

1. Active against Gram-Positive Bacteria: Fusidic acid is primarily effective against Gram-positive bacteria, including strains of Staphylococcus aureus (including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus or MRSA) and Streptococcus species. It works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, thereby preventing the growth and replication of susceptible bacteria.

2. Treatment of Skin Infections: Fusidic acid is commonly used topically for the treatment of skin infections, such as impetigo, infected wounds, and infected dermatitis. It helps eliminate or control bacterial growth at the site of infection, reducing inflammation and promoting wound healing.

3. Ophthalmic Infections: Fusidic acid can be used in ophthalmic preparations for the treatment of bacterial eye infections, such as conjunctivitis and blepharitis. It helps eradicate bacterial pathogens in the eye, relieving symptoms and promoting recovery.

4. Limited Development of Antibiotic Resistance: Fusidic acid has shown a relatively low rate of resistance development compared to other antibiotics. It is considered an important option for the treatment of infections caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains that are susceptible to fusidic acid.

5. Combination Therapy: Fusidic acid can be used in combination with other antibiotics for the treatment of certain infections, such as bone and joint infections or respiratory tract infections caused by susceptible bacteria. Combining fusidic acid with other antibiotics can enhance the overall antibacterial activity and broaden the spectrum of coverage.

6. Well-Tolerated: Fusidic acid is generally well-tolerated when used topically or in ophthalmic formulations. Side effects are usually mild and include skin irritation, itching, or burning sensations at the application site. Systemic side effects are rare when used topically.

It is important to note that the use of Fusidic acid should be based on the guidance of a healthcare professional. The specific benefits and appropriate usage of the medication may vary depending on the type of infection, the susceptibility of the bacteria, and individual patient factors.

A: Fusidic acid is an antibiotic that belongs to a group of its own - the fusidanes . It was obtained from cultures of a fungus, Fusidium coccineum, which was originally isolated from monkey feces. It has been available in the market since 1962.

Q: What is another name for fusidic acid?

A: Acid, Fusidic; Fucithalmic; Fusidate Sodium; Fusidate, Silver; Fusidate, Sodium; Fusidic Acid; Fusidic Acid, Sodium Salt; Fusidin.

Q: Does fusidic acid heal wounds?

A: Topically applied, fusidic acid is effective in the treatment of staphylococcal and streptococcal skin infections, wounds, burns, and ulcers.

Q: Is fusidic acid a strong antibiotic?

A: According to international surveillance studies conducted by Cempra from 2008 to 2011, fusidic acid has potent activity against Staphylococcus spp., including methicillin-resistant strains. These studies noted that after four decades of use in Europe, 89.3% of 2700 Staphylococcus strains remained sensitive to fusidic acid.
