White crystalline powder. Odorless, with a slight acidic taste. Density of 1.35. Melting point is 135-138°C. It is stable in dry air but slowly hydrolyzes into salicylic acid and acetic acid upon exposure to moisture. Slightly soluble in water, soluble in ethanol, ether, chloroform, as well as alkaline hydroxide or carbonate solutions, while decomposing simultaneously.

Here are some common applications of Acetylsalicylic Acid:

1. Analgesic and Anti-inflammatory: Acetylsalicylic Acid is widely used as an analgesic (pain reliever) and anti-inflammatory agent. It helps alleviate mild to moderate pain, including headaches, toothaches, muscle aches, and joint pain. It also reduces inflammation associated with conditions like arthritis and swelling.

2. Fever Reduction: Acetylsalicylic Acid has antipyretic properties, meaning it can help reduce fever. It is commonly used to lower elevated body temperature caused by infections or other factors.

3. Cardiovascular Health: Acetylsalicylic Acid is often prescribed for its antiplatelet effect, which helps prevent blood clot formation. It is used as a preventive measure for individuals at risk of heart attacks, strokes, and certain cardiovascular conditions. Low-dose aspirin is commonly recommended in such cases.

4. Thrombosis Prevention: Due to its antiplatelet properties, Acetylsalicylic Acid is used to prevent the formation of blood clots in conditions such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism. It may be prescribed during long periods of immobilization or after certain surgeries.
